“I ALWAYS FEEL PEACEFUL, YET ENERGIZED AFTER A FEW HOURS OF PROCESS PAINTING. IT HELPS ME TURN OFF MY NAGGING INTERNAL CRITIC WHO INSISTS EVERYTHING I DO HAS TO BE “RIGHT” OR BE “PERFECT.” I CAN PAINT SIMPLY FOR THE JOY OF LETTING MYSELF CREATE …”

Materials:

Art materials can vary based on what you have available at your home. They can be as elaborate as a set of paints or as simple as printer paper and a pen.

Here are some suggestions ~ You may wish to use any combination of the following:

Painting supplies

  • Set of paints in as many colors as you have (tempera, acrylic, watercolor, guache, etc.)

  • Brushes of varying sizes/shapes (I suggest at least a flat, a round or filbert, a fine detail brush, and an angled foam brush)

  • Paint palette (paper plate, plastic lid, anything flat)

  • Water cup

  • Rag or paper towel

and/or

Drawing tools

  • Markers, paint pens, or brush pens (even a Sharpie marker works great)

  • Colored pencils

  • Crayons or oil pastels

  • Chalk pastels

  • Graphite or charcoal

  • Ink pens

Surface/Paper

  • Large pad or loose sheets of heavy paper (Can be bristol, watercolor paper, canvas paper, or any heavy stock)

  • Printer/xerox paper, cardstock, or whatever kinds of paper scraps you have around the house

  • Canvas is acceptable if you have any

  • A sketchbook is another option for paper/surface

Writing supplies

  • We will begin with a writing prompt, so feel free to have a pen and journal handy or you may use some of your other supplies for this

You will need a space where you can create uninterrupted.  Set up to work either vertically using an easel or taping to the wall or a board, or horizontally using a table, desk, or even the floor ~ or both. Make sure that your area is near whatever device you’ll be using to log in to the group with, whether it’s a computer, laptop, tablet or phone. Adequate lighting is also helpful.
